The Lime Kilns of Mde On this side of the Orneau, we find a series of five lime kiln mouths leaning against the valley side. This industry, also owned by the Dejaiffe family, was independent of marble working. The purpose of these kilns was to produce lime from the limestone quarry located to their left. The extracted stone was placed on top of the kilns, mixed with coal (or other fuel), and heated to a temperature of 900°C. This process produced quicklime, which was then hydrated by adding water from the Orneau. The remains of a shed on the left were probably used to grind the resulting product and bag it. Carts transported their cargo to the station. The lime was used in plasters and mortars. These facilities employed 33 people in 1896. They operated until around the Second World War.The contemporary chapel erected nearby is dedicated to Saint Barbara.
