An old Jewish temple was turned into a Catholic church in 1496 and given the name of Igreja da Misericórdia (Church of Mercy). Today is the Old Church of Our Lady of the Conception. The facade is the hallmark of this church. Hatch and big windows are very rich in decorative feature a harmonious blend of baroque and Manueline. Decorated with a rich profusion of Manueline details, with an emphasis on angels, flowers, armillar spheres and the cross of the Ordem de Cristo, the Portal further displays, in the tympanum, the Virgem Maria protecting with her mantle historical figures, namely The pope Leon X and King Manuel (Manueline it is a mix of Gothic and Renaissance called in honor of King Manuel).
