The Battle of Barnet

Description

On 14 April 1471 near this spot, the Battle of Barnet was fought, a decisive battle in the War of the Roses. Under cover of darkness, the Yorkists moved close to the Lancastrians, and clashed in a thick fog at dawn. The battle lasted from two to three hours, and was over by the time the fog lifted in the early morning, with the Yorkists triumphant.

An obelisk marks the spot. For more information , visit the nearby Barnet Museum or read the Wikipedia article about the battle.
