• Mont le Ban, 10 May 1940: a Platoon of Chasseurs Ardennais, with only a small number of men, accomplished its mission which was to delay the advance of the enemy far superior in numbers and resources, inflicting a delay of nearly an hour.
• Corporal Pierre Esser protects the withdrawal of the 3CHA. Rifle on his shoulder, he fires tirelessly, true to his word "I will not retreat". He was killed in his post by shrapnel.
• This monument was erected in his honour by his friends, at the precise spot where he was found dead.
