Consecrated in 1015, the former collegiate church of St Barthélemy is typical of the Romanesque style in Liège.
The remains of an external crypt (now destroyed) date from the 11th century; the chancel, low transepts and crossing from the 12th century; and the nave, side-aisles and front structure from 1187-1188.
Given a vaulted ceiling and redecorated in the 18th century, the church has been completely restored (1992-2005).
It is the setting for a major item of world heritage, a masterpiece of Mosan art known as the St Barthélemy font, which was cast in brass (12th century).
