The plain rockfaced exterior of this church conceals a stunning interior.
A William Butterfield gem, designed for the Dowager 7th Viscountess Downe in 1868, it displays magnificent banded and diapered brickwork, a canted wagon roof, and a lavish use of gilt and black inlay.
Almost entirely furnished by Butterfield, the screen and marble reredos are worthy of particular note and are complemented by beautiful Pre-Raphaelite glass by Burne-Jones and Ford Madox Brown.
Service times: 3rd Sun 1830 Holy Communion or Evensong (1600 in winter); 4th Sun 0915 Family Service.
