Cimetières familiaux protestants.

Cimetière protestant, François
Cimetière protestant, François2

Description

From 1685 to 1787, being a Protestant was forbidden in the kingdom of France. Protestants could not bury their relatives in the parish cemetery. They were buried in secret.
François was a commune with a high concentration of Protestants. They were most often surrounded by dry stone walls or planted with boxwood, yew or cypress trees.
The law of 1804 authorized them to enter the cemeteries.
However, the tradition of burying the dead in family cemeteries (garden, fields?) is maintained.
