Church of Saint Pierre Saint Paul

Church of Saint Pierre Saint Paul
Credit : OT Passy

Description

Behind its quiet and robust appearance, the church of Passy shelters nineteen centuries of history: Roman ex-voto, Romanesque bell tower-porch, 15th century choir, baroque and neo-classical decorations... It invites you on an extraordinary journey through time!
The old lady was first mentioned in a deed of gift in 1012. However, the building was altered twice, in the 15th and 17th centuries.

While the exterior walls are decorated with a sober gypsum plaster, the interior of the church is more richly decorated.

In the choir, a superb altarpiece with twisted columns awaits you, where an 18th century painting represents Saint Peter surrounded by two important ecclesiastical figures of the Savoyard Church: Saint François de Sales and Blessed Amédée IX, Duke of Savoy.

A case closed! If the three altarpieces are protected as Historic Monuments, in the nave, no less than three other pieces of furniture are also protected: the baptismal font, the holy water font and the 17th century preaching pulpit. The latter is very original with its base decorated with an atlantean, a character dressed in the peasant costume of the time.

Here you can discover a lively, colourful décor, which, although late, is still characteristic of Baroque art.
