Nestling in the heart of the La Fontaine Eco-Domain in Pornic, the Farm is a sanctuary for permaculture and ecological farming know-how. Surrounded by 12 hectares of lush greenery, it invites you to immerse yourself in the secrets of healthy, environmentally-friendly production.
A philosophy rooted in respect for nature
The La Fontaine Eco-Domaine Farm draws its philosophy from the fundamental principles of permaculture. Here, respect for nature and natural cycles guides every action. Crops flourish without the use of chemicals, nourished by rich, living soil. Biodiversity is encouraged, promoting the balance and resilience of the ecosystem.
"By growing with nature, not against it, it's a real pleasure to see our vegetables go from the kitchen garden to the plates of our restaurants, in a single stroke of the pruning shears. Fork-to-fork cooking is good for taste and good for the planet.
Mulching the vegetables with hay from the farm, feeding the soil with a variety of organic matter, leaving a place for the garden's insect helpers, that's the secret to being self-sufficient and making the Earth a garden of abundance in cooperation with Nature", explains Mathieu the gardener.
The vegetable gardens are open all year round, and you're sure to come across a team of permaculturists who will be delighted to describe the many different vegetable combinations and growing techniques. Baskets of organic vegetables are available to order every Friday. And if you want to go further, take part in the workshops and courses on offer throughout the year.
What's happening at the La Fontaine Eco-Domaine farm?
The team of permaculturists are trying to develop their self-sufficiency (food, energy, water) and are designing the garden landscape with a view to resilience in the face of climate disruption, based on the principles of permaculture.
The experimental dimension is very strong, particularly in the following areas: market gardening and gardening on living soil, eco-construction, garden forests, ecology of natural environments, management of animals in dynamic rotational grazing, viticulture on living soil and agroforestry.
