Très large à cet endroit, c'est là que se trouvaient les halles (ou cohues) au Moyen-Âge : cohues au blé, à la viande et au poisson.
On voit ici la Fontaine Thoreau reconstituée en 1995 à la place de l'ancienne fontaine du 15e siècle. Elle porte le nom d'un ancien évêque de Dol et représente Saint Samson.
