Description
C'est sous la direction de Le Nôtre que fut construit, entre 1679 et 1681, le bassin de Neptune, nommé alors "Pièce d'eau sous le Dragon" ou "pièce des Sapins". Jacques-Ange Gabriel en modifia légèrement le tracé en 1736 et, en 1740, on mit en place le décor sculpté. Le nouveau bassin, inauguré par Louis XV, compte quatre-vingt-dix-neuf effets jets d'eau.
