The river Isle flows into the Dordogne at Libourne, after a 56 km journey in the Gironde. Since the 17th century, the river has been used as a waterway between Libourne and Périgueux. The development of the railway, and later road transport, led to the decline of river transport.
The Dronne is its main tributary. The Isle valley is home to some particular species of French fauna, such as the European mink or the cistude. All kinds of fishing can be practised on the two rivers or on the many ponds spread over the territory (Lauvirat, Chamadelle, Les Eglisottes).
