Description

Now in ruins, Château de Pugny bears witness to a long history. The earliest references to its lords date back almost 1,000 years.
In the early days, the château would have consisted of a large building, first made of wood, then of masonry.
It was not until the end of the 15th century that it was surrounded by a large fortified enclosure, by special authorization of King Louis XI.
Transformed into a Renaissance-style château in the 1560s, it was destroyed in 1792 during one of the very first uprisings of what would become the Vendée Wars.
Sold as national property in 1798, the site was transformed into a farm.
Individual and group visits by prior arrangement.
