Château De Bressuire

Description

Built on a rocky promontory in the 11th century, the château, owned by the Beaumont family, has constantly reinforced its defensive system, with up to three successive enclosures. Today, you can follow the 700 m-long enclosure, punctuated by 38 towers, some of which have been set up as isolated strongholds, and stroll past the romantic ruins of the 15th-century dwelling. From the esplanade, take in the view of the Chapelle St Cyprien and the former 19th-century abattoirs.
The neo-Gothic dwelling, built in the 19th century, hosts temporary exhibitions, including a sculpture show in March and a painting show in May. An annual sculpture symposium is held on the château grounds.
July and August treasure hunt: Help Dame Jeanne rebuild her castle, by finding the treasure hidden by her husband!
