You may have passed through Nerac, 25 km south-west of Agen, did you stop there? Built on a Gallo-Roman villa, the city prospered especially during the Renaissance, a favourite residence of the Albret family and, a stronghold of Protestantism, home to a brilliant court. The future Henri IV spent part of his youth there and forged his reputation as "Vert galant", leaving the legend of Fleurette.
The visit of Nérac revolves around its navigable river, the Baïse. From the church of Saint-Nicolas or the Petit Nérac viewpoint, you can discover the port, the Old Bridge and the tanneries which today house art galleries and restaurants. The walk takes you through the streets (Maison des Conférences, Henri IV's castle and its museum) and through the Royal Park of the Garenne redesigned by Queen Margot, wife of Henri IV.
