The lantern of the dead of Rancon is circular in shape, its top is pierced with six bays that allow the glow of fire to spread.
Since the 12th century, the lantern has remained in its original place. The cemetery in which it was built was that of the chapel of Saint Sebastian and the fortified church of St Pierre-aux-Liens. It was moved away from the town in 1872. The two remarkable oak trees in the square today were planted at that time. Around them you can see ancient tombstones.
