The stone of the twelve apostles

The stone of the twelve apostles
Credit : OTIPB

Description

This red sandstone menhir is 5m high and dates back to the druidic period where it served as a sacrificial stone.

Later in 1170, it was used as a boundary stone between Alsace and Lorraine. The 12 apostles that figure on all 4 sides date back to 1787. If you look carefully the royal arms of the Duke of Lorraine can be seen as well as the date 1609.
