In Gascon, Adour (an ancient term) means "source", "watercourse" and adourgà or adorgar means "to irrigate". The word adur is specialized in Basque in the sense of 'destiny', 'magic wave' (presumed meaning of 'mood').
The Adour has its source at the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, south of Tarbes and in the heart of the Pyrenees. It flows into the Atlantic Ocean just downstream of Bayonne, after a journey of more than 300 kilometres. Carp fishing at night is allowed on this river
Some rules are to be respected : only vegetal baits are allowed and all the carps caught must be immediately put back in the water. The night time is considered as 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise. The practice is carried out only from the bank.
