Fontaine des cent marches

Following the tour of Montfort-en-chalosse, Bastide of the 13th century, you will discover in point 4 Chalosse differently with this fountain and its laundry. From the road, a path allows you to go down through a bamboo plantation and banana trees. In the 1800s, families and servants climbed down by a steep dirt road to get enough water to meet daily needs and wash clothes. It took them a whole hour! Have fun by counting the steps (150 exactly but shhhh it’s a secret!). On your left, there is a marked hiking trail (hiking guide n°4 is on sale at the Tourism Information Office at 2€) and on your right, sink into the woods, follow the path on 656 yards, it will lead you to the church of the 12th century (point 5 of the circuit).
