The church is part of a former priory founded in the 11th century. It belongs to the Romanesque period and still presents beautiful elements characteristic of this region of transition between Poitou and Limousin, with its poly-lobed portal in particular. Inside, the decoration is concentrated on some sculpted capitals. In the nave, the statue of the Virgin and Child is venerated under the title of Our Lady of Saint-Paixent. Until the 1960s, the parishioners led her in procession, dressed in a lace ornament.
Registered as a Historic Monument in 1973.
