Château d'Avanton
Description
-Based on an older building, Château d'Avanton was built in the 16th century by François AUBERT, mayor of Poitiers. The architecture and decoration bear witness to the various families who subsequently succeeded each other on the estate. The structure seems to have been designed as an initial barrier to the winds sweeping across the plain on the road between Richelieu and Poitiers. Its imposing height and balanced form make it one of the jewels of Renaissance history and architecture.
