Rieux-Volvestre, medieval city. Nestled in the heart of the Volvestre hills only 45 km from Toulouse, this former bastide has some remarkable architectural examples of its historical heritage, starting with a central marketplace and exceptional timber-frame houses. An episcopal see from 1317 to 1801, the numerous vestiges relating to this period include the Saint-Marie Cathedral the Episcopal Treasure. The Musée du Papogay is a museum retracing the local tradition of archery and the Musée Lapidaire focuses on the history of the city.
