Bayeux et la Tapisserie 1940-1944 : une histoire incroyable

Bayeux et la Tapisserie 1940-1944 : une histoire incroyable

Description

National tour guide, writer and historian specializing in the Second World War, Jean-Charles Stasi created Normandy Tours & Détours to share his passion and knowledge of Normandy with as many people as possible. And he does so by offering off-the-beaten-track tours, based primarily on the many books he has devoted to D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
A tour specially designed for families and young visitors.

In an unchanged setting, a visit to discover the singular destiny of Bayeux and the Tapestry during the Second World War.

From the arrival of German troops in June 1940 to the triumphant visit of General de Gaulle four years later, and the quick and easy liberation of the town the day after D-Day, discover the highlights of Bayeux?s history during the Second World War through the streets and squares of the town center, which have remained unchanged since that time.
You'll also learn about the little-known but incredible fate of the famous Tapestry during these years, which was the object of particular interest from the highest echelons of the Third Reich and escaped in extremis from being sent to Berlin in August 1944.

Duration: 1h30

Mode of transport : On foot

Our guide?s favorite : Before or after the visit, take a stroll in Bayeux?s "marsh", a green setting in the heart of the town, populated by frogs and birds, from which you have a magnificent view of the cathedral?s towers.

Extras : You can round off this tour with a visit to the Tapestry Museum (in the historic heart of the town) and the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum (opposite the British military cemetery).
