Andernos-les-Bains, nestled in the heart of the Bay of Arcachon, is an attractive seaside resort that has retained its authenticity. Thanks to the presence of the railway and the vogue for sea bathing, at the end of the 19th century, the town expanded under the leadership of its senator mayor Louis David, then his successors. On the edge of the basin of Arcachon, are the remains of an important Gallo-Roman villa well highlighted. Next door, the church of Saint-Eloi preserves a Romanesque sculpted decoration and wall paintings from the late Middle Ages. The pier, the oyster port with its colourful huts and its small oyster museum are popular destinations. Among the many villas built is the Villa Ignota or Maison Louis David, which sums up all the characteristics of the seaside architecture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, where you can visit a museum.
