According to the tradition, the corneltrees bowers could be more than 350 years old. In the past they formed a cloister of greenery where the Capuchins used to have a walk in summer. The Capuchins arrived in Arlon in 1621, soon they were authorized to restore the ancient ruins of the Counts'Castle, at the top of the hill (1626). The Convent of the Capuchins was suppressed in 1796, as a result of the French Revolution. As there was no purchaser it was occupied by different communities before becoming a dependance of St Martin's, the parish church, in 1807. (Original text by Office du Tourisme d’Arlon)
