Founded in 1242, this mediaeval hospital has retained its appearance as well as its furniture from the 16th and 17th centuries. This UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate is listed in Wallonia's major heritage register, and represents eight centuries of medicine and history in its 20 entirely restored rooms. The highlight of your visit is a tour of the two wards which paint an excellent picture of how medicine was practiced in the past and of its evolution! In a contemporary style, the museum displays precious and authentic artefacts, medical instruments from a bygone era and a rich collection of pharmaceutical products. Before or after your visit to the museum you can see 200 different species of medicinal plants in the garden. In 2010 the hospital won the Belgian Museum Award and the Public Award, which demonstrates the quality and dynamism of its team.
