When Man contemplates the Universe [Greco-Renoir-Monet-Van Gogh-Seurat-Constable-Friedrich…] In the wake of the recent success of its “Heritage” exhibition - 101 masterpieces (from Dürer to Manet) – the Tournai Museum of Fine Arts offers a new original exhibition centred on the theme of natural beauty. Through one single journey confronting works of great artists from the past, such as Greco, Friedrich, Monet, Van Gogh, Seurat, Balla, Franz Marc – ranging from Renaissance to avant-gardes – together with several recent creations on the theme (Platon H., Oscar Piattella), BEAUTY WILL SAVE THE WORLD is to be an ode to beauty and to the contemplation of the physical world around us in a plastic and visual celebration of the major three mineral, vegetal and animal kingdoms. With some one hundred works gathering together varied art forms such as painting, drawing, and three-dimensional creations, this international-ranging event will also offer an opportunity to admire a number of masterpieces on loan – sometimes for the first time – from great museums abroad. The exhibition will be staged in a both sober and surprisingly play scenography. A field of one thousand Solar Rotating Sunflowers by the artist Alexandre Dang will liven up the central hall of the museum. Hasten in great numbers to the discovery of this new “Rite of Spring”.
