Charny-sur-Meuse

Night of 25 to 26 August 1914 : Maurice Genevoix and the detachment of the 106th RI from Châlons-en-Champagne arrive at Charny-sur-Meuse station at one o’clock in the morning. They immediately begin marching.
“we continue for another five or six kilometres, until Charny. It is one o’clock in the morning. In the tumult, opposite the doors of the trucks that seem to breathe heavily, the sections reform. And we begin marching, slowly, heavily”
