The lakes you see occupy a hollow resulting from erosion by a glacier. After the glacier has melted, water from the glacial torrent, often brought from higher up, fills the hole and creates the lake.
These large areas are populated by snow partridges or ptarmigan. One of the only animals to have kept the particularity of the Arctic gene: white in winter and beige in summer. A camouflage outfit reserved for the ermine and the mountain hare in the Alps.
