Cathedral cloister

Visit the Notre-Dame de Tulle cathedral cloister, which boasts a delightfully calm and peaceful ambience despite its location right in the town centre. Now a popular subject of amateur artists, this 13th century Gothic structure once formed part of the Saint-Martin de Tulle abbey, along with the church itself. Follow the east gallery, also known as the “gallery of angels” in reference to its sculpted keystones, and make your way into the chapter house. This room has retained some superb wall paintings, namely two 14th century works representing the Last Supper and the Entry of Christ into Jerusalem, both painted using the laborious lime pigmentation technique. In the west gallery, discover the cloister museum which is home to the town’s emblematic collections.
