Eglise de Bénévent l'Abbaye

The Abbey Church is ideally situated on the Route of Santiago de Compostela, and the relics of the apostle St. Bartholomew ensured the rapid enrichment of the monastery built here in the first half of the 11th century. Intended to transmit the traditional religious, philosophical and social thought of our ancestors down the centuries, the church at Bénévent l?Abbaye is a remarkable book of stone, and was fortunate enough to have been built by mason monks, Compagnons de taille de pierres, Charpentiers or initiated masons, who possessed not only a remarkable technique, but also an architectural philosophy - which explains the importance of symbolism ? and of the Golden Number ? in this major pilgrimage site.
