Just off the N10, take a break at Valence en Poitou in the south of the Vienne department for an hour, a day or even longer.
Take the opportunity to discover the remains of the Cistercian abbey founded in 1230 by Hugues X de Lusignan. At the time, the building comprised an abbey church 70m long and 30m wide. Damaged in particular by the Wars of Religion, the abbey was rebuilt and restored many times before being sold as national property during the French Revolution.
Two buildings bear witness to the original construction: the guesthouse and the monks' refectory, comprising two naves and three bays with ribbed vaults.
The exterior is open to the public.
