Its foundations date back to the 12th century, and it was almost entirely rebuilt in the late 15th century following the Hundred Years War. A watchtower was erected on the north façade in 1587 during the Wars of Religion. Its current appearance largely corresponds to the alterations carried out in 1782 (framework, bell tower, paving, vaults, doors) and between 1839 and 1875 (woodwork, choir, bell tower). Inside is the late 12th-century Châsse Saint-Macaire, the only one of the 7 reliquary shrines placed on the main altar to have survived the dissolution of the Grandmont Order in 1772 and the dispersal of the treasury in 1781. It is one of the largest engraved copper and champlevé enamel reliquaries of the period preserved in France. The other treasure is a 13th-century dalmatic (liturgical vestment).
