Description

Current City Hall and former Episcopal Palace of Castres.
At the end of the 17th century, the Bishop of Castres initiated the construction of the Bishop's Palace in order to establish his authority.

The ensemble consisting of the Palace, the French gardens and the Saint-Benoît Tower (the oldest vestige of Castres) was born at this time, according to the plans of Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Nôtre.

During the Revolution, the Palace was bought by the commune and became the town hall. Today, in addition to certain services of the town hall, the building houses the Goya Museum, the main collection of Hispanic art in France after the Louvre.
