Stèle de Guillaume Dupuytren à Pierre-Buffière

Guillaume Dupuytren was born on October 5, 1777 in Pierre-Buffière (at number 22 of the street which today bears his name, and which houses the presbytery). After studying in Paris, he became a surgeon at the Hôtel-Dieu de Paris in 1802. He was appointed assistant surgeon, then chief surgeon and professor of surgical clinic. He was surgeon to Louis XVIII and Charles X. Later appointed Baron and member of the Académie de Médecine, he practiced at Hôtel-Dieu for 15 years. He was the father of anatomopathology, providing anatomical descriptions of congenital dislocation of the hip, retraction of the superficial palmar aponeurosis (known as Dupuytren?s disease) and inventing the enterotome.
He died on February 8, 1835 at the age of 56, suffering from the onset of apoplexy, pleural effusion and renal colic.
