This village of ancient origins was part of the Viscounty of Rochechouart in the Middle Ages. The last of the Haute-Vienne communes, Saillat-sur-Vienne was created in 1928, and was previously a cadastral section of the neighboring commune of Chaillac.
The Saillat-sur-Vienne site is one of Limousin?s industrial flagships, and Europe?s leading producer of office paper.
For relaxation, the commune boasts a large-capacity village hall, an ornamental park, hiking trails between the Vienne and Glane rivers, and a landscaped pond for outdoor activities such as picnicking, fishing and pétanque.
