The village of Saillat-sur –Vienne was already in existence in the Middle Ages and was part of the estate of the Vicomte of Rochechouart. It then became part of the neighbouring commune of Chaillac until 1928 when it became a commune in its own right. The paper industry rules here and Saillat-sur-Vienne is the industrial jewel of the Limousin with the biggest European producer of office paper based here. Leisure facilities include a large community hall, a park, footpaths, and a lake where you can enjoy a picnic, fishing and playing pétanque. Saillat has been able to successfully unite its high-quality industrial side with the peace and calm of the Limousin countryside.
