Eglise St Jacques le Majeur

Description

This pure Gothic church (15th century) is the only one in Haute-Vienne to be dedicated to Saint Jacques le Majeur.
Built on the ruins of the castle chapel in the 15th century, you'll notice that the church has gone through several construction periods (13th, 15th and 19th centuries).
The church is most famous for its late 15th-century stained glass windows. They decorate the 3 bays of the apse and are surmounted by a trilobe on 2 trefoil arches. The saints are depicted on the left, the apostles in the center and the holy women on the right. Admire the main altar and altarpiece, an 18th-century gilded wooden piece with twisted columns, niches and statues, as well as twelve granite pedestals adorned with angels in the choir wall.
