VIGNOBLE DE BREM SUR MER

VIGNOBLE DE BREM SUR MER
VIGNOBLE DE BREM SUR MER

Description

Brem sur Mer is a commune renowned for its wine-growing. Over the years, the winegrowers have nurtured and developed the vines, before obtaining the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée in 2011.
The geology of Brem sur mer gives its vines a unique character. Here, the vines draw their strength from the alluvium and shale to produce dry whites, charming rosés and reds where the sea air has a particular influence on the fruit of the vine. Brem wines are described as fine and delicate, with a lovely minerality and a discreet saline touch.
The various grape varieties grown in the Fiefs Vendéens AOC are essentially Gamay, Pinot Noir, Chenin, Cabernet, Negrette and Chardonnay.

Throughout the year, you can visit these cellars free of charge to find out a little more about wine production, and even enjoy a tasting or guided tour. It's an opportunity to meet passionate winegrowers whose exacting standards and expertise will delight your taste buds and offer you moments of pleasure and sharing.

For a list of producers, please contact the tourist office. You can also follow the Routes des Vins, 2 wine tourism trails to discover!

A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE VINEYARDS?
Between the 5th and 6th centuries, monks planted vines in the immense natural salt marshes. Saint-Nicolas (Brem-sur-Mer) was a trading port, known mainly to the Dutch, who came to buy Brem wine and ship it back to Holland.
A few centuries later, Cardinal de Richelieu donated the vines he had acquired to the church in Luçon, and gave them to the poor. Although his gift enabled local wines to be cultivated, unfortunately they still suffered from the isolation of the Vendée. After the Second World War, led by a few enterprising winegrowers, the wines of Brem-sur-Mer gradually regained their legendary status.
