In the park, the Capuchin chapel, that is home to the Coulommiers municipal museum was built at the same time as the Duchesse de Longueville chateau of which only a few remains survive.
Carrying a nave and a small chapel in the north, the most remarkable part is a “grotto” in the place of the chancel whose walls comprise high relief decorated niches telling the life of Christ.
They were originally multicoloured and covered with shells, topped with round sculptures representing the Saints and a fresco on the ceiling. A visit to the museum is essential to find out about the history of the town. It presents fascinating collections that will show you the town’s past. The old Duchesse de Longueville that has today disappeared is present through objects in the collection. Other historical souvenirs like jewellery, the Paley treasure or terrestrial and celestial globes are presented with care.
