The majestic stone gate of the Saint-Estèphe cemetery is shaped like a triumphal arch. It is engraved with the Alpha and Omega - the beginning and end of the alphabet - symbolizing the beginning and end of life.
The Mausoleum in the Saint-Estèphe Cemetery
Near the white marble cenotaph raised to the "children" of the commune, is a dark mausoleum which contains 187 boxes of soldiers who died for France in 14-18. They were Malagasy, Indochinese, Africans and were sleeping in the Lazaret cemetery when they were disturbed before the Second World War to redevelop the land of the Shell.
