Table d'orientation de Roche de Vic

Description

On the D.940, near the quatres routes d'Albussac, in the direction of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. This rocky escarpment dominates the landscape at 636 m altitude. It is probably an ancient Gallic oppidum, once surrounded by an oval enclosure of walls or natural rock, up to 115 m in diameter... The ancient moats are now covered with heather. Legend has it that Roland, nephew of Charlemagne, threw his sword, the Durandal, from the summit all the way to Rocamadour...Since 1880, Roche de vic has been dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The chapel erected at its summit is still topped by a statue of Saint Mary. Every year on August 15, a pilgrimage brings together hundreds of people. The orientation table offers a 360-degree panoramic view.
