Sundials of Venosc

Sundials of Venosc

One of the oldest painted sundials of Alpine "Dauphinoises"
Dating from 1669, it's decorated with an inscription "sun that doesn't know end" .His sundial needle disappeared and was replaced in 1998.
The Roman numerals materialize the hours with points.
The number 666 is supposed to represent the flames of hell in the context of against reform during which the brothers of Bourg d'Oisans want to evangelize the Protestants of Oisans.
