Murailles gallo-romaines

Description

Sur la route des Flandres, la ville de Senlis a régulièrement subit le passage des troupes armées, de l’Antiquité au 20éme siècle, endurant attaques et sièges. Ce mur de fortification est la première enceinte édifiée aux 3éme et 4éme siècles pour défendre l’importante cité gallo-romaine d’Augustomagus (Senlis) contre les invasions germaniques. Ce rempart circulaire est long de 840 m et ponctué de 28 tours (18 encore debout). La technique habituelle de construction romaine, bien identifiable, alterne blocs de pierre et rangs de brique.
