Nervous and wild, the chamois is remarkably adapted to the mountain terrain, capable of covering 1,000 m of undulating ground in less than fifteen minutes. It occupies a variety of environments: wooded slopes, alpine meadows, screes and névés on which it often comes to cool down during the hot summer afternoons. Outside of the rutting season, in November, the rather solitary males steer clear of the herds of females, young and kids.
