Church of Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul : Josephine’s final resting place
Placed under the protection of Saint Pierre and Saint Paul, the church, a listed
building, houses the tombs of Empress Josephine and her daughter, Queen Hortense who expressed the desire to be buried beside her mother.

Josephine’s tomb, made of Carrara marble, was completed in 1825 and is decorated with a statue by Cartellier. The statue represents the Empress kneeling, recalling, as desired by her children, David’s famous painting “The Coronation of Napoleon”.

One can also admire the beautiful church organ case offered by Napoleon III and signed Bacchio d’Agniolo and the beautiful bas-relief of the altar in gilded bronze designed in the 12th century by François Anguier for the Church of Val de Grace in Paris.
