Eglise Saint-Etienne

Description

Unique in the Médoc, this magnificent church was built in two periods 100 years apart, 1750 and 1850. It is still considered today as one of the most beautiful ensembles of 18th century religious art produced in the Gironde. Richly decorated and entirely restored by the Beaux-Arts workshops, it offers an enormous central altarpiece (Romanesque baroque) topped with volutes covered with golden palms, magnificent paintings, one of which by the painter Laporte is listed, a red marble pulpit... We should also note a beautiful gallery on pillars built in the 19th century to accommodate the Werner organs composed of 884 tin pipes built by the master Maille. The acoustics are so good that many concerts are given in this church.
The church is so elegant that it is a marvel.
