Jalle du Nord

Description

The jalle du Nord or L'Horte is a canalised stream that runs through the former marshes of Beychevelle (or Sainte-Gème or Saint-Martin). It is one of the elements that allow the drainage of the marshlands, with the Chenal du Milieu and the Chenal du Midi running parallel to it. It crosses the road from Bordeaux to Pauillac at the level of the bridge known as the Beychevelle bridge, equipped with a sluice; nearby another bridge spans it before it continues its way along the park of Château Beychevelle.
It joins the estuary at the level of the port of Beychevelle. A floodgate has been built there.
