The city of Betanzos and the Mandeo current are the protagonists of many of Francisco Lloréns' canvases. The three boats is one of the most monumental works created by the artist during his stay in Betanzos in 1919. In this canvas, the painter is situated in a very low point of view, from the opposite bank of the river, and offers us, at first sight, the water mass of the Mandeo river, the piers and the boats which focus the attention on the lower part of the painting, opposing curved and straight lines, movement and calm.
The upper part is occupied by the houses of a popular neighborhood; with many details that speak of daily life. The corn is drying in the sunshine, the clothes washed in the river...
