Description
Les plus anciennes traces de civilisations connues à Cercy-la-Tour, remontent au paléolithique,, puis au néolithique.
L'époque gallo-romaine a laissé également quelques vestiges à Cercy : voies, gué, pièces de monnaie. Cercy-la-Tour était à cette période « l'Oppidum de Cerciacum » c'est-à-dire une place forte, que l'on retrouve ensuite au Moyen Âge avec une enceinte longue de 820 mètres dans laquelle s'ouvraient quatre portes.
